Personal Practice of Yoga #Autumn 2025

ree

Summer and the heat are fading away – it’s the perfect time to begin your Yoga practice!

There are many reasons to start, but here’s a good one: if you are approaching or have already passed the age of 50, and of course if you are interested in prevention and wellbeing, this is the time for you to start YOUR Yoga practice. Once we reach or go beyond 50+, we have the responsibility to dedicate quality time to ourselves and our wellness. For the bones, the hormones, for a strong body, a resilient mind, and a connection with nature are just some of the priorities.

As you begin turning your attention inward, and before you step onto the mat, don’t forget an essential point: this practice carries a tradition and references of over 2000 years. Despite this long tradition, the human body, emotions, hopes, and fears have remained almost unchanged. This reminds us that, in some way, across time, you are part of a collective effort of many people over many centuries – an effort to enhance the joy of life and reduce suffering (Y.S. 2.16), starting right on the mat. It’s not a quick fix.

Through consistent practice, we continue to consciously enjoy ourselves and life as it unfolds, step by step – day by day.

Hints for a personal practice:

Small tips for personal practice continued from Personal Practice of Yoga # Summer 2025

  • Treat your commitment to practice as a supportive tool for your health, wellbeing, and mental balance.

  • Avoid clinging to specific results or fixed goals. Instead, surrender to the quality of each practice with consistency. Surrender to the acceptance of “what is” each time. After all, even if it sounds paradoxical, the philosophy of Yoga emphasizes acceptance and non-attachment; ideas we work on both on and off the mat.

  • Trust in the body’s innate ability to heal when given the right support. Through conscious practice, I learn about myself/my body – and so I learn to give it what it needs to heal. This is a process that requires dedication.

  • There’s no point in waiting for Monday to start. Begin as soon as possible.
